New Jay Reatard : "It Ain't Gonna Save Me"

Once you get a grip of Jay Reatard's thoughts on recording music and what an album should be, if you aren't given a sense of freshness regarding the whole industry, you must be too jaded. Matador will be releasing Reatard's self-produced second album, which is the first since the barrage of singles in the past couple of years. The first single we are getting in mp3 format (I'm not sure about a physical release) is "It Ain't Gonna Save Me" and the single does not disappoint, but goes farther than his previous sound, adding a few more layers and interesting sounds. The new album, Watch Me Fall, will be out August 18th, and that's the cover up there.

Video : Grizzly Bear : "Two Weeks" and Stream Veckatimest

I bet you've all heard the song about 100 times by now, but you can FINALLY watch the video for "Two Weeks" as of... now. If you start watching and find yourself thinking "Why should I keep watching this?", just wait until their heads start to explode. I'm serious.

This Weekend : Chaos In Tejas

Its all you need to know. Go have some fun.

Tonight : Ponytail @ Red 7 (Chaos in Tejas Kickoff!)

Tonight features a show we've been looking forward to for some time, but won't be able to attend (although you should). The show is at Red 7 around 9, so get your asses downtown as soon as you can to catch all of the bands playing, including Ponytail (!!!). The show also kicks off the Chaos in Tejas weekend and we couldn't really think of a better show to get things started.

Jeff Nelson of Minor Threat/Dischord Records Selling Items on Ebay

You know I wouldn't be posting about this if he was selling Gap sweaters or something, so it must be good. You're right. Jeff Nelson of Minor Threat and Dischord Records fame is selling a ton of items on Ebay from his collection of odds and ends (mostly fliers and rare records) that, according to him, people have been calling "too big and insane, or more than my potential kids or grandkids will ever want". I can say with 100% certainty that if I were his kid or grandkid, I would want it all, but I'm not, and I still do... Anyway, Nelson is offering some of the greatest items from his collection (I'm sure he has multiples) including the first pressing of Minor Threat's second 7", In My Eyes, one of only 125 copies ever made on red vinyl. He says he's never played it and it is in pristine condition, so if you have more than $600 to blow (that's where the bidding currently is) then pick it up and enjoy your piece of history. Nelson has included whatever he can conjure up about the specific items from his journal entires of the time, especially with the fliers he is posting for sale. In one, he goes on and on about pizza and it is pretty fantastic. Here's my favorite (besides the record)

New Xiu Xiu : Untitled (I Love You Kathy)

Seeing Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu play solo last month was one of the greatest shows we've ever had the privilege of covering here on The Grizzly Life, and with that show came new material that we've been hoping for ever since we finished listening to the last album. Stewart played several new songs on tour and one that stands out is the one in the video below. Like his best work, this new song (no known title yet, so we'll just call it 'I Love You Kathy') is haunting, jarring, and beautiful. Do yourself a favor and watch/listen.

Chaos in Tejas : Later This Month!

We have so far neglected to post a thing about Chaos in Tejas, but we didn't want to overlook the festivities happening right here in our own backyard. Chaos features tons of punk and metal bands from all over and we're probably most excited about the most overlooked bands on the bill. We will get performances from the likes of Propagandi, Ponytail, Times New Viking, The Thermals, and a ton of other bands. The whole thing will take place from Wednesday, May 20th and end on Sunday, May 24th. As always, we will keep you posted with more updates like specific shows, closer to their respective dates.
