Review & Photos : 'Friends' Art Opening @ Domy Books

The name of the exhibit, Friends, sums up the entire night and collection of artwork/artists in the perfect way. This past Thursday, Domy Books played host to one of the best collections of art this city has seen (in my humble opinion) in a while. The photographs of Bill Daniel were inspiring to someone who loves 80s hardcore/punk and photography. The exhibit features a good number of Big Boys related photographs from Daniel and to have Tim Kerr talk to me about the photos he is in and what he remembers from them was something else all together. Kerr's work is also very inspiring, featuring historical figures that have fallen through the cracks, but have new life breathed into their stories through Kerr's artwork. Cynthia Connolly has large black and white photos of hotels featured in the showing and Michael Sieben and Rich Jacobs's work are all worth a look as well. The opening also featured Old-Time music from Tim and his other friends who played fiddle, harmonica, upright-bass, and other instruments that sounded superb in the small space that is Domy Books. The opening was a good time and most people who came probably left with a new friend or two, and I know I did. Tim Kerr plays Old-Time music with his pals at Rio Rita cafe y cantina every Tuesday night at 8 p.m., so you know where I will be this Tuesday. The exhibit runs until April 4th, but don't put off seeing it. You will regret it if you miss seeing this much talent compiled together in one small space.
