New Telepathe Video : So Fine

We aren't too into telling you what you should be listening to, namely because there are tons of other blogs out there you probably get that from anyway, but we can make exceptions. Telepathe is destined to become a hipster staple, but you can get to them before they do if you know what I mean. These Brooklyn girls play catchy synth-laden pop tunes, but I personally like them more than the average synth-laden pop band, and you probably will too. They are pretty good live too

In any case, here's the video for the band's song "So Fine", from their release Dance Mother, which is already out on iTunes and will see the physical light of day on March 10. Hopefully this will be a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy Austin afternoon.

This Weekend : Broken Social Scene and Fucked Up

You couldn't really find two bands that are more on opposite sides of the spectrum (besides both hailing from Canada), but you might actually find people that attend both shows. Who knows? Anyway, both Fucked Up and Broken Social Scene will be here this weekend and that's always something to celebrate.

First off, Fucked Up is playing Saturday night at Emo's, with doors opening at 8 p.m. and the show set to start at 10 p.m. Here's a video of the band on Canadian MTV playing "Twice Born" in a bathroom, doing the usual wrecking.

Fellow countrymen (and women) Broken Social Scene will be playing UT's Bass Performance Hall to a sold-out crowd, on Saturday night as well. You might try Craigslist... Anyway, things get started there at 8 p.m. but I'm sure if you are reading this you either don't have tickets and aren't going, or do and already know!

New Animal Collective Video : My Girls

In a very smart move on their part, Animal Collective and the powers that be at Domino have decided that "My Girls" should be the first song from Merriweather Post Pavilion to warrant making a video. It makes sense. The son is arguably the best one on the album, and my personal favorite. I have stepped away from the album for a couple of weeks, for fear of playing it out so early on in the year, but listening to and watching video for the song felt as good as it did the first time I heard it. The video takes the viewer through some colorful landscapes, as one may expect from the band, and the animation is good, if not simplistic. A pleasure to the eyes and ears, yet not envelope-pushing, the Windows screensaver/Star Wars-esque light-speed graphic does add a tinge of antiquity to a fresh song. Check out the video for yourselves over at MyAnimalHome.net.

While we're on the subject of AC, the band has plotted a world tour, and Austin ended up on the roster. You will, however, have to wait until Friday, June 5 to catch the band at Stubb's, but a little wait never hurt anyone, did it?

An Update on Morrissey Tickets

Here's a quick update and reminder for you: Morrissey is coming to town on April 12 via UT's Bass Concert Hall. That being said, the tickets for the show, likely to sell out in mere minutes, will be hitting the market this Friday, January 23, at noon sharp, so queue up your browser of choice at http://www.utpac.org/morrissey to get the tickets you want. I am personally hoping for those $10 student tickets, but we shall see! Good luck!

SXSW '09 : Back-Track and Update

We know that SXSW is still months away, but we can't help but get in on the speculation. There have been a handful of bands to be confirmed by SXSW and a multitude of others who have listed their appearances at SXSW on their personal websites or otherwise and we have to say, nothing has amazed as of yet, but there are a few proverbial rays-of-sunshine we thought we should mention. As we already pointed out, St. Vincent and Beach House have been confirmed by the festival, and now we have seen (unofficial) lists with acts like Flosstradamus, Dirty Projectors, and Black Lips to name a few. At this point, the lists are mostly comprised of no-name acts, but hey, some people love going to anything at SXSW in hopes of finding "the next big thing". Good luck!

Anyway, as always, we will keep you posted with all the updates and speculation.

Ha! It seems like we timed this post right, because SXSW just updated with some new bands, like: Explosions in the Sky, Kid Sister, Peter Bjorn & John, This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb, Mika Miko, and Akron/Family. We're getting kind of pumped on these latest announcements. Peep the other officials here

Tomorrow : Merriweather Post Pavilion Listening Party @ End of an Ear

I would find it hard to believe that you haven't heard the album yet, but if you have been one of the few (if any) that have held out and refused to listen, you can finally breathe easy tomorrow (if you're in Austin) and hit up End of an Ear on South 1st tomorrow night at 6 p.m. to hear your first glimpse of the album in public. Talk about it, shop for records, and enjoy the company of fellow revelers. There will be prizes and other such things, so you won't just be listening.
