No Age Play In-Store @ Good Records

We're intensely excited to see these guys come through on Monday, and Good Records has just confirmed their in-store. Later that night, the band will be stopping by The Loft to play a full set with Abe Vigoda and others opening up the show. 

The band just premiered the video for their song Eraser on that FNMTV show. Check it out and we will see you on Monday.

Giveaway! Tickets to F-Yeah Tour with Matt & Kim and The Death Set!

David Horvitz Xiu Xiu / High Places 7" Split Available for Order Now

Friend of both Xiu Xiu and High Places, Mr. David Horvitz has been taking polaroids for the past 10 months or so, according to him, around LA and New York for the upcoming split 7" from both bands. The vinyl comes in an addition of 1,000, each with an original polaroid, shot by Horvitz for the release. The split seems to contain songs that have been previously unreleased with a song called Kitten Revolution by Xiu Xiu and Oceanus by High Places. And, there are apparently some releases that will be pressed on white vinyl as well. 

Horvitz claims that if you choose to order from him, you will receive the best polaroids, so order ASAP, as he has 50 to sell. Follow this link to order. Those ordered now will ship by July 27th. 

Girl Talk - Feed the Animals Now Available for Whatever You Like

Mr. Gillis, as promised, has dropped his new album Feed the Animals right on time. When it wasn't out yesterday, he just kept us chomping at the bit until this morning when it was finally released. So I don't know what that track was about the other day, but the album holds true to the club bangers he's put out before. You'll just need to take a listen yourself, and you can do so for free (or pay, its whatever you want).

It's got some of the material he's been playing for a while like that Rich Boy sample I've been waiting to hear on a record, along with more insane stuff that you've come to expect. Tom Gable and Andrew W.K. to Play Emo's on July 4th

In the spirit of the independence of our country (okay, maybe not) Mr. Tom Gabel, of Against Me! fame, and party animal Andrew WK have decided to celebrate the national fireworks  holiday at Emo's by playing an off-show from the Warped Tour. While Warped may be pretty lame, this show will certainly be a good one. Gabel will be playing some "new material" according to a blog on the band's Myspace. We aren't too sure what Andrew WK's performance will entail, but we are sure that it will be amazingly fun. The thing is $10 so you really can't go wrong (unless you really want to see those fireworks...). 

New Girl Talk - "I"

So the internet got hit with what seems to be a taste of things to come from the new Girl Talk album Feed the Animals. The song was posted on his MySpace today and is called "I". If you are getting all excited to hear brilliantly wound tunes from hip-hop, pop, oldies favorites and even a little indie thrown in, don't. This new material sort of harkens back to the old days of Girl Talk where things weren't as laid out as they were on Night Ripper. The song features some ambient stuff that sounds like its been slowed down and played backwards and then a guy chanting "Girl Talk" towards the end. An intro track for the album? Who knows, that's just my call. Give it a listen!

David Byrne : Playing the Building

On today's episode of Boing Boing TV, from one of our favorite sites, Boing Boing, host Xeni and legendary musician and artist David Byrne discuss his newest project. Byrne has installed an old electronic organ that has been turned into a controller that literally plays the building in which it is housed once one presses a key on the keyboard. I'll just let him explain it:

"Devices [have been] attached to the building's structure — to the metal beams and pillars, the heating pipes, the water pipes — and are used to make these things produce sound. The activations are of three types: wind, vibration, striking. The devices cause the building elements to vibrate, resonate and oscillate so that the building itself becomes a very large musical instrument."

Playing the Building will be going on from  is still going on until August 10 and is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: Noon - 6PM and its entirely free. The building is located at 10 South Street in NY, NY just in case you'd like to stop by. Byrne will be playing ACL this year too so if you're going, check him out. 

A Little Something to Start Off Summer

Here's a short list (not by any means extensive) of some new(er) music and Dallas/Austin dates that will make your summer a whole lot better. 

High Places - 03/07 - 09/07

This is the perfect summer album. High Places blend ethereal melodies with steady beats and wafting vocals. Perfect stuff for summer right? I know. In listening to the album over the past few weeks, I was trying to figure out which songs I would recommend as stand outs, but I couldn't come up with just a few because they are all worth many a listen. The album is out now on E-Music (follow the link), with no physical release yet. You can listen to some material at their Myspace.

No Age - Nouns 

No Age and their newest LP will be in our radar and on the record player all summer long. Nouns is such an excellent album and if you haven't acquired a copy just yet, what are you waiting for!? The band is stopping by TX on its summer tour and both The Loft in Dallas and Emo's in Austin will house their performances, so there isn't really an excuse to miss those shows. They might also do a little something special for Dallas, but that hasn't been confirmed yet. 

Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer (out June 17)

It wouldn't be summer without a Wolf Parade tour and album would it? You're right, it would be, but we won't have to go without either of those things this summer. The band mounts their long awaited comeback (?) with At Mount Zoomer, out on Sub Pop June 17. The album features more of the traded vocals on tracks from Spencer Krug and Dan Boeckner that WP fans have grown to love and more of the same pounding drums and excellent keys from Krug. But don't go into thinking its a status-quo record. Give it a listen Tuesday. The band will be stopping by both Dallas and Austin at The Palladium Ballroom and La Zona Rosa, respectively. They haven't been to these parts as WP since ACL 2006, so catch them while you can. 

The Dodos - Visiter

The Dodos has evolved on their new album (I swear this time, no pun intended) Visiter and in doing such, have received a ton of press surrounding its release and their recent performances at SXSW and the like. This album is the logical next step from Meric Long's humble beginnings as Dodo Bird, with more complex instrumentation and amazing percussion provided by Logan Kroeber. Just because the album has a song about winter on it, doesn't mean its not right for summer. Its out now on Frenchkiss Records.

My Morning Jacket - An Evening With My Morning Jacket & selected songs from Evil Urges (out June 10)

My Morning Jacket has decided to spend an evening with a good portion of America (or those tho wish to accept the invitation) and Dallas and Austin find themselves on the RSVP list with The Palladium Ballroom and Stubb's hosting, respectively. If its anything like it was last time, their performance will be as entertaining as it does sound wonderful (provided they play career spanning material and not weight he set down with material from Evil Urges).

As you may have noticed in the title, Evil Urges, MMJ's impending release, doesn't hold much material that I would feel comfortable recommending, but the album does have some redeeming qualities. A lot of the band's established sound has been lost to spacey guitars and awkward falsettos, but some of the old Kentucky charm still remains. Songs like Smokin' From Shootin', Librarian, and I'm Amazed, among a few others, feel like old MMJ, and other songs just feel old. Too old. At any rate, the album can be streamed at their Myspace page.

The Fuck Yeah Fest Tour

The exclamation this tour's name provokes is one best used to describe how awesome its line-up is. Featuring some of the most fun bands on the planet, it guarantees to be an amazing time with the addition of comedy and some spoken word by Keith Morris of Black Flag/Circle Jerks. Coincidentally, the Austin show just so happens to be Morris's first time ever doing spoken word. Featuring favorites of ours Matt & Kim and The Death Set, the Ft. Worth and Austin dates are guaranteed to be fun, if nothing else. 1919 Hemphill in Ft. Worth and Mohawk in Austin play hosts.

Transmission Entertainment Goes Live

Transmission Entertainment has been around for a while now, curating our favorite little festival called Fun Fun Fun Fest for the past 2 years (going on 3 now), but the group has just gone live with their proper website and I have to say, it is definitely worth a look. If you missed Fx3 Fest last year or just want to relive it, they have some great videos from bands like Battles, Final Fantasy (featuring Dan Bejar and Cadence Weapon), and a great recap of Fun Fun Fun 2007, all for your viewing pleasure. The group puts on some of the best shows in Austin and we are going to very excited to (we hope!) get the chance to work with them on several different occasions.
